Pooper scooper

I made a quite trip out the site yesterday to check on the guys installing the septic tank. The tank was in the ground and they were starting on the trench for the pipe leading to the septic mound.  I also wanted to have a look at the driveway to see what I needed to do to make it a bit more stable. There are a lot of big trucks on it now and I don’t want it to disintegrate. I’m going to rent a compactor and get the sand that is there nice and tight. Cover that with geotextile, and then a load of gravel on that. I have next week off before I start me new job and should have plenty of time. I also thought I’d rent a brush hog and mow down some of the crap that is out there.

Fortune and Frame

Curt emailed this morning. We have a framer. Woohoo!

Curt worked with us on the design of the house and has been responsible for assembling the materials package (framing materials, windows doors siding shingles etc.) and the timberframe portion of the package. He also agreed to find us a reputable framer.  The contract is signed and they said they can start around the 4th of July.

Murray is doing my well pump and septic system. I met with him a few weeks ago just after Scott & Renee starting digging the basement. We talked about the best location for the septic tank and where the septic mound should go. For those who don’t know, the septic tank is where all the waste water and pee and poo goes. the lighter stuff (liquid) floats to the top and escapes from the tank and goes through a buried pipe across the yard to the mound where it soaks down in to the soil. The heavier stuff (poo) settles to the bottom of the tank and needs to be removed periodically by a septic truck, basically a big vacuum cleaner.

It’s super wet around here and all Murray’s other jobs are on hold so he called me today to see whether he could go out and do my job tomorrow. Scott and Renee haven’t back-filled yet so I thought that might be an issue but they had no problem with it so tomorrow we’re getting a septic system. This is good as it’ll mean 1 less trench we’ll have to avoid when the materials are delivered.

Milk TruckOne final note: if you own a septic truck and you don’t have something hilariously  inappropriate written on the side of it, you will not be getting my business.

I think the rose is a nice touch don’t you?

Building Suspense

Author: shaynne | Filed under: Utilities

I called Frank at the gas company today. We’re going to meet at MH next week to have a look at the lot. There is a gas line at the east end of the property and another to the south, across the road. You can see that the one across the road is closer to the house but it will likely cost more to bring on to the property.

I need to know where it’s coming from so I can stake out the trench in order to keep the building materials away from it when they drop them off.
